Final Exam Schedule!
Final Exam Schedule!

The finals schedule has been approved.Although there will not be early dismissal after exams the week of December 18 – 21, the exam schedule will be similar as in the past.  The difference is approximately an hour prior to each exam allocated for teachers to provide additional review and time for students to study. Teachers will create an environment conducive for students to study. Students will only take two exams per day. District policy is that there is no early release or half day for any campuses next week during finals.  Students will have time on campus to review with their teacher prior to taking the final.

Some FAQs for finals week:

Q: Are parents going to be able to check their kids out if they don't have an exam in the afternoon?

A: There are no final exam exemptions so all students should be taking finals in all classes.

Q: Are students who are not taking exams permitted to leave early?

A: There are no final exam exemptions so all students should be taking finals in all classes.

Q: What about kids who don't have an afternoon class such as an off period?

A: If students have an off-campus period, they would still be allowed to follow that schedule.

IMPORTANT FAFSA INFORMATION FROM THE COLLEGE CENTER
IMPORTANT FAFSA INFORMATION FROM THE COLLEGE CENTER

The College Center is preparing for the FAFSA 2024-2025 to open. The latest from the Department of Education is that the FAFSA will open by December 31st.  We are planning numerous workshops in January to help seniors and parents complete the FAFSA. Workshop dates are below.

For now, the best way to prepare for FAFSA is to create an FSA ID. Beginning with the 2024–25 FAFSA, all contributors (student and parent/guardian) must have their own FSA ID. The FSA ID is a username and password that is required to login to FAFSA. Processing a new FSA ID can take up to five business days. By getting the IDs now, you will be ready to complete and submit FAFSA once it’s available.

To create an FSA ID, please go to studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch

How to create FSA ID video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTb7hMVtzco

Those contributors without an SSN, but whose student is eligible to apply for FAFSA, will need an FSA ID. However, they cannot yet create an FSA ID without a Social Security Number. We expect this access to be available around the same time the FAFSA is released.

FAFSA Lunch Workshops:

January 8th
January 12th
January 29th
February 5th
February 14th

FAFSA Evening Workshop:
January 18th – 6:00-8:00pm
FAFSA Saturday Workshop:
January 27th- 10:00am- 1:00pm

*All workshops will be held in the Teaching Theater

The College Center will continue to communicate with seniors and parents. Encourage your student to check their Outlook email daily. You can also find more information on our Senior newsletter: www.smore.com/sq6d9 and Instagram: @Heights2college

Congratulations to the Heights Quiz Bowl Team!
Congratulations to the Heights Quiz Bowl Team!
At the Dec 10th TQBA Houston Holiday Hoedown Tournament hosted by James Taylor High School of Katy ISD, 14 Division 1 teams and 14 Division 2 teams competed. After a long day of competition our Heights A Team narrowly lost in the finals against Carnegie Vanguard A.

Our B team came in 5th in dividision 2 and Sophomore Faith Grahmann was the highest scoring division 2 player.

Of the 14 schools fielding teams, only 3 HISD schools were represented (Heights, Carnegie and DeBakey), so it was cool to have an "All HISD" finals. I have attached a photo to commemorate the moment.

Full stats and results can be found here:

Heights High School is currently ranked 36th in the nation, and we are qualified to compete in both National Championship tournaments held in Atlanta (NAQT) and D.C (PACE).
