| Important Updates from Principal Hampton |
Bulldog Families, What a week it has been, and it is only Tuesday! I hope everyone is doing well and has regained power. If you have not or you’ve had damage that you still need assistance with, please let me know as we have some volunteers to lend support. This email contains important updates to timelines effected by school closure on Friday, May 17; Monday, May 20th; and today as well as important updates for seniors. Please take a moment to read it in its entirety. Awards Night: Rescheduled to Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. Dual Credit: The deadline to submit required documentation for Dual Credit courses has been extended to Friday, May 24, 2024. Please email Christina Bagos, Asst. Principal of Academics, or Aaron Miyamoto, Asst, Principal, for questions. Final Exam Exemptions: The deadline to submit exam exemption requests has been extended to Friday, May 24, 2024 for grades 9 – 11. Students can submit requests using the following link: https://forms.gle/Jg8uoL2Z3ovBzMVM6 Students must be signed into their HISD account to access the form. Advanced Placement (AP Exams): For students who were scheduled to take late exams this week due to exam conflicts, please check email regularly for updates from Ms. Martinez. Due to campus being closed, we have been unable to receive some exams. This will delay the administration of some exams. We will send updates as we have them. IMPORTANT ACTION ITEM FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS To be in compliance with TEA requirements we must have parent and student signature/acknowledgement for all student personal graduation plans. Some of you may have done this already in a previous year, but please verify now that you have. The directions to do so are linked below: PGP Parent Instructions English.pdf PGP Parent Instructions Spanish.pdf Important Senior Updates Senior Final Exams:
Senior Attendance Appeals: May 22 – 23 from 4:15 – 6:15—Students should report to Teaching Theater immediately following dismissal bell. Senior PGPs: To be cleared for graduation, senior Personal Graduation Plans must be acknowledged by parents. Please see the information here on how to complete this process. PGP Parent Instructions English.pdf Thank you for your patience yesterday. I know many of you were frustrated, and I can certainly understand your concerns. I can confirm that on Sunday, Heights had both power and working air conditioning. One of our administrators came in to check the building status, enjoy the AC and charge his power bricks due to lack of power at his residence. Whatever issue occurred happened some time over night. I was on campus by 6:15 a.m. Monday morning to check the building and report issues. As you know, we have regular HVAC issues and generally when techs are called that early, they are able to get us up and running and cooled off. That just did not happen to be the case yesterday. When it was determined that the issues could not easily be resolved, we were given the okay to close. I appreciate the quick actions of parents in picking up their students quickly as well as HISD transportation who had busses her very fast! Thanks to the PTO for coordinating the drop off of fans and to Ms. Barreras for coordinating where they would go. Please reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns. wh --------------------------------- Familias bulldogs, ¡Qué semana ha sido y apenas es martes! Espero que... |

| Finals Schedule, Grades 9-11 |
From Ms Hampton: At this time, we’ve been given the go ahead to move forward with exam exemptions. Should this change we will notify the community as soon as possible. The exemption policy is as follows: Grade 9 students may be allowed one spring final exam exemption; two spring final exam exemptions may be allowed for eligible 10th and 11th graders. Eligible students are those with no more than three (3) absences in any one course for the duration of the semester. In addition, eligible students must have an 85 or higher semester average in the specific course(s) where the final exam exemption is applied. Students are expected to be in attendance for all exams even if they are exempt. Missing a final exam will result in a zero on the report card until the final exam is made up. The make-up period is June 10-21, 2024. After that date the zero is final. If a student has exempted an exam and is absent, the absence could cause the students to lose exemption status and/or could cause an NG resulting in a loss of credit. First Lunch consists of students in the M building and the G building Second Lunch consists of students in the A and V Building |

| Library Volunteers Needed |
Our beloved HHS Librarian, Ms. Holliday, will move into a teaching position next year. In partnership with Ms. Hampton, the PTO created a new committee to keep the library staffed until the school is able to fund her replacement. The Bulldog Library Team will consist of parents and community members committed to volunteering in the library. We are in the process of detailing the job description, but it will include tasks like checking out books, reshelving books, and supporting students. We are also in the process of determining library hours. Ideally, we are looking for volunteers who can serve consistently every week, even if for only a couple of hours. We will provide training and support for our team so we can feel confident in our work and thoughtfully serve the faculty, staff, and students. If you are interested in this unique and rewarding volunteer opportunity, please email Dawn Cole at librarychair@heightspto.org. |

| REMIND: @6f279c INSTAGRAM: @hhs.co24 FACEBOOK GROUP: @heights2024 ICYMI, here is Ms. Hampton’s communication about graduation in English and Spanish. ***Important Senior Updates*** Senior Final Exams: Seniors will follow the regular bell schedule and all senior finals will be held during the 90-minute class periods. Teachers will work individually with students who need extended time. Seniors who have an 85 or higher average and three absences or less may exempt the final for that class if they choose. Senior Attendance Appeals: May 22 – 23 from 4:15 – 6:15—Students should report to Teaching Theater immediately following dismissal bell. Senior Attendance Expectations for May 23 – 31 Seniors will continue to attend their regularly scheduled classes May 23 through May 30. Students who need credit recovery, credit appeal, TSIA2 test administration, IBC administration or some other requirement for graduation that has not been met will be identified and supported in meeting that requirement. Students must be in attendance for all classes. Failure to attend may trigger additional NGs and could impact your eligibility to graduate. We have tentatively scheduled the following senior activities during this time as well: Senior Check-out will be held June 3-5 Seniors will be required to sign-in each day of senior check-out to receive attendance credit. Failure to be in attendance may result in additional NGs and credit appeal may not be available. This may impact your ability to graduate with your classmates.
